master of design programme

We will become Master of Design for Services in September 2012

design for a changing world

The Master of Design Programme at the University of Dundee takes students on an interdisciplinary journey, identifying new areas where their design skills can make a difference.

To meet today’s challenges, we need to see the big picture, communicate clearly and work with others to innovate. The Programme supports students from a range of different disciplines to discover, define and develop their skills to position themselves to make an impact on the world.  Students learn how to find problems that need solved, how to observe and interact with users and experts and how to try things out to see if they work. They work individually and in teams, exploring where their strengths and skills are best deployed. This year’s students are working on projects from Forensic Jewellery ID systems for police use to making classroom learning games.

Applicants to our new Master of Design for Service  may have backgrounds in Design, Healthcare, Education, Business and other relevant areas. We will be using design tools like observation, visualisation and prototyping help us better understand the relationships between businesses and customers and agencies and clients. If we co-create services with the people who have the best insights and knowledge – the nurse with a lifetime’s experience, the dissatisfied customer and the inspirational school teacher we can design services, tools and systems which are sustainable, cost-effective and a pleasure to use.

Our Masters students leave to design for public and private companies, run commercial and social enterprises, study for PhDs and become design lecturers around the world.
